“I want to know everything that happened while I was gone,” Frankie insisted, as she kicked the front door closed with her foot and dropped her suitcase unceremoniously on the floor.

“It’s nice to see you too,” Jessica smiled. Frankie was going through withdrawal from gossip. Jessica thought it wouldn’t hurt her to wait a little bit more.

“Oh yeah, I missed you. Now, what happened with Sebastian?” she insisted.

“I did what I said I was going to do,” Jessica answered. “I drove him crazy. It’s a wonder he didn’t kill me.” When Frankie just stared at her expectantly, Jessica told her friend how she goaded the poor vampire. She told him about the dancing, about the massage, and finally, about Jacque drinking from her.

“Gah!” Frankie gasped. “You didn’t! Oh. My. God. What did he do?”

“Lost his freaking mind,” Jessica answered. “I thought for a minute that things were going to get ugly. But he ended up biting me and well…”

“Wow,” Frankie sighed. “Was it as good as the first time?”

“Better.”

“So how come you are here instead of there?”

“I do live here,” Jessica said. “Besides, Angel said I could have the day off. I told him I wanted to be home when you got here. And man, there is some crazy shit going on there.”

“Oooh, do tell,” Frankie said, leaning forward to make sure she didn’t miss a single word.

“Well, I found some weird files in my office, and Angel said some of them were personal files on the mated vampires that had gone missing. And I found some strange debits that someone tried to hide.” Jessica told her dearest friend all about the confrontation in her office and what they thought.

“I could scry for your missing accountant,” Frankie offered.

“I know. Angel and Sebastian spent most of last night out looking for him. I think they might be looking into that weird church too. I’ll call and ask if they want you to help,” Jessica said.

“Why?”

“Why what?”

“Why ask if they want my help? Didn’t you notice? They are men. Men don’t ask for help. I’ll just get my stuff and get started. Then, if I find something, we can call them. If not, then they never need to know about it.”

“I don’t know, Frankie. They might get upset.” Jessica shook her head. Flirting with Angel and Sebastian’s temper wasn’t real high on her list of things to try. Especially not after the incident in her office.

“Like Sebastian would ever hurt you,” Frankie said under her breath. She got to her feet and went in her room. When she emerged again, her arms were loaded down with supplies.

Frankie went straight to the kitchen table and laid out her tools. She covered the table with a black cloth, then set a bowl in the center. She arranged several thick candles around the bowl, and opened a small leather pouch.

“What’s that?” Jessica asked, pointing to what looked like an old fashioned wine bottle.

“It’s blessed water,” Frankie answered.

“Holy water?”

“No, blessed water. I asked the Goddess to bless it.
